Test Pilot - Kody Knudtson
Pro Aerial League's Inaugural drone race during the Rose Cup sports car event at Portland International Raceway was held July 9th and 10th. 2 full days of racing action cycled the field through qualifying rounds, and points building semi final rounds to stack the top 6 pilots in a head to head 3 race battle.
Hobbywing powered Kody Knudtson had a rough day of qualifying, but managed to recover in the Semi rounds to be the #2 pilot going into the triple Finals. When the dust settled and the props were straitened, Kody came out on top after mid-air contact, gate smashes, some extremely intense and amazing close calls against the fop pilots from the weekend. Kody used the new Hobbywing Xrotor 40 amp 4-1 ESC, coupled to a set of Xrotor 2205x2600kv CW/CCW motors. No loose props from gate smashing!
All in all, 6 rounds of Qualifying, 5 Rounds of Semi finals, countless runs of practice Friday and the mornings, Kody saw no failures due to on track abuse. With a full size moto cross track at their disposal, the Pro Aerial League put together a monster sized track that was extremely fast and action packed. High speed strait away sections with very fast run ups to hair pin turns, and a dash of aerobatic gates, made for a battery killer of a course. 5 laps before the 90 second timer went off meant 6 laps was possible. Kody was one of only 2 pilots to turn in official 6 lap runs on the weekend, he did several 5 lap runs and was at the top of the leader board on times on a regular basis. Hats off to you sir, great work this weekend, congratulations!
We would like to take a moment to thank the Pro Aerial League, as well as Milita Brothers, Thrust UAV, Seattle Multitors, and Micha from N.W.FPV for all his help! Micah Rocks! Many racers went home with Hobbywing Goodies, and the top 6 all took home some fresh Hobbywing Hardware. We look forward to attending, and supporting more drone racing events soon!
